Lie Pie Title: Barack Obama is not a legal citizen Note: The viral email that inspired Granny's long soliloquy is WAY down the page in black text. UPDATE: I looked into this again since the controversy surrounding Obama's birth does not appear to be dissipating by any stretch. I read a great just-updated piece about it at Politifact.com. It fleshes out much of what has already been written elsewhere with some new information. A couple of things jumped out at me: First, you can argue until you are blue that Obama should produce his "long form" instead of his "short form" birth certificate. The city of Obama's birth listed on the so-called "short form" is taken directly from the "long-form" birth certificate, and it was unquestionably Honolulu. (This is per Hawaii Dept. of Health Spokeswoman Janice Okubo. Read details here.) If Obama hadn't been born in Honolulu, the "short form" birth certificate would say so. There is not a thing that would be gained by getting the name of the hospital or the delivering physician off the "long form". I can only imagine the feeding frenzy on the doorsteps of the hospital and the delivering physician's home that would that would result from this unnecessary disclosure. I'm sure we'd find many of the folks on duty at the hospital on August 4, 1961 have since died of "natural causes," which to some is code for "smothered by a pillow in their sleep by Michelle Obama." Lord. Second, I knew that there had been an announcement of Obama's birth in the local paper. What I didn't know was that his birth was announced in TWO local papers (see the announcements for yourself here and here), and that those announcements originated from the Hawaii Dept. of Health, and NOT from the Obama family. To make sure we are on the same page, let me put it another way: the Hawaii Department of Health announced Obama's birth. The Obama family had nothing to do with this official Dept. of Health announcement. (More here and here.) I have a hard time believing the Hawaii Dept. of Health was in cahoots with Barack Obama Sr. and Stanley Ann Dunham to falsify Obama's birth certificate and then cover it up with an official Health Department announcement in two local papers. I don't believe the Obamas are in the Lizard People bloodline, honey, so there was no reason for anyone to go to such great lengths for them back in 1961. Third, Politifact.com tracked down Obama's marriage certificate, his driver's license record, his registration and public disciplinary record with the Supreme Court of Illinois, and his property records. Obama also has an official passport on file with the State Department, though I hate to bring it up because apparently everyone who has laid eyes on his passport has been murdered. Similarly, Obama has a social security card in order to be employed in the United States--it isn't a public record, but according to some folks on the internet his number is--you guessed it--"666." Every aforementioned document required prior to issuance a valid birth certificate which was reviewed for authenticity by untold numbers of experts. Folks, I could go on and on. The number of folks necessary who were either incompetent or complicit in maintaining Obama's birth certificate deception across nearly 5 decades is just incomprehensible. I'll also admit that I'm less inclined to give credence to these conspiracy theories because they are often discussed in forums accompanied by statements and images that, to put it kindly, are poorly thought out:
Honey, now you know that nobody loves a good conspiracy theory more than your Granny. I'm a huge fan of Weekly World News, have been all my life. But this Obama citizenship B.S. just goes a little far for my tastes. It just ain't credible. I hope you'll think about it a little. If you aren't happy Obama is the President, then you'll have another chance to defeat him in less than four years. That's what democracy is all about. So get cracking on winning in 2012 instead of undoing 2008--that's the most patriotic thing you can do. You aren't doing yourself justice with this birth certificate tomfoolery. Honey, you just remember that Granny loves you no matter what. --Granny, 7/24/09 Editor's Note: There appears to be a continuing interest over the issue of whether or not Barack Obama is a natural born citizen. From what I'm seeing, those folks who have waged challenges to Obama's citizenship in court don't seem to be making any headway. Here is a link to Factcheck.org's investigation of the matter from last August, as well as an update from November 1st, 2008. This all smacks of a very poor conspiracy theory to your granny. After the election, Barack Obama began receiving the highest level security briefings available only to the President of the United States. You'd think there were folks somewhere along the way that looked into whether Obama is actually a citizen before handing him the keys to the top secret kingdom. If they didn't, we've got far bigger problems than Obama's citizenship. Sorry, honey. It just strains credulity. --Granny 12/15/08 WATCH YOUR STEP: STEAMING VIRAL EMAIL B.S.
