Lie Pie Title: Why Obama nominated Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court Editor's Note: This one is just plain stupid. Conspiracy theorists these days are a dime a dozen, and I'm embarrassed for the entire profession when I see shoddy work like the viral email below. I almost can't stand to look at it, that's how bad it is. Let me put it out of its misery so we can move on to more fertile territory: The author of this piss-poor conspiracy theory wants you to think that Elena Kagan blocked all the lawsuits challenging Obama's citizenship from making their way to the Supreme Court. I hate to tell you this, honey, but even though Elena Kagan was Obama's Solicitor General, she didn't have the power to block jack squat from making it to the Supreme Court. Here's how the Supreme Court decides whether or not to hear a case:
So Elena Kagan had nothing to do with the Supreme Court deciding against hearing challenges to Obama's citizenship and eligibility to serve as President. If four of the nine Justices had wanted to hear those cases, they would have been heard. Every single petition is assigned to a Justice and reviewed in a conference, so the fact that the Supreme Court let all those Obama-citizenship cases stand probably says something about their merits. I want to add a couple more things: First, there was nothing nefarious about Elena Kagan representing Barack Obama in cases against him that made their way to the Supreme Court. That is what a "Solicitor General" does, honey. Perform a docket search on "Bush Olson" and you'll see that Theodore Olson, who was President Bush's Solicitor General, represented Bush when cases against him made their way to the Supreme Court. Second, Elena Kagan isn't the first Solicitor General to serve on the Supreme Court--she's actually the fifth Solicitor General to serve on the Supreme Court. Sorry again, but there just ain't nothing to see here, folks. Listen up all you tinpot conspiracy theorist wannabes: why don't you make yourself useful and go track down Amelia Earhart's skeleton in Fiji, or recover the Ark of the Covenant from the Oak Island Money Pit? Go cut your teeth on something worthwhile. This Obama-Kagan-Supreme Court B.S. is an affront to conspiracy theory aficionados everywhere. --Granny, 8/30/2010 P.S. All the B.S. of the first version, PLUS some eye-poppingly amateurish lying about Snopes.com! I can't decide whether to marvel at it or be insulted by it. Viral emails lately are just subpar. Honey, if you are going to lie to me, put some effort into it! Be the best fraud you can be! Go to Snopes.com and see for yourself that the snopes folks never said "there were no such dockets." Snopes.com actually said the polar OPPOSITE of "there were no such dockets" when they provided specifics on every single case in the "Obama Kagan" docket search! The Snopes folks did discover something remarkable about all those "Obama Kagan" cases that I missed: none of them had anything to do with Obama's citizenship! World Net Daily had to eat crow on this one according to TruthorFiction.com. Now, I'm ashamed to admit that it didn't occur to me when I did my research for "Version 1" above that all the Obama-Kagan cases were about matters unrelated to Obama's citizenship. I didn't even look them up. Once again, those folks at Snopes.com hit the ball out of the park! All you folks who think you can't trust Snopes.com have been sold a bill of goods by the very liars and frauds Snopes.com competently exposes on a day to day basis. Snopes.com don't deserve to be attacked by reprobates who are so lazy and/or inept they can't construct a respectable conspiracy theory or build a narrative with fewer holes than swiss cheese. I'd re-think my opposition to Snopes.com if I were you. Those folks at Snopes treat you with respect, provide you with first-rate documentation, and take it for granted that you will hold them accountable for everything on their site. These spineless lying dipsticks who produce these viral emails think you are dumber than a knuckle-dragging poo-eating chimpanzee. This "Snopes can't be trusted" B.S. is for the birds. --Granny, 9/10/2010 WATCH YOUR STEP: STEAMING VIRAL EMAIL B.S.
