Lie Pie Title: Obama cancels National Day of Prayer ceremony! Editor's Note: I'd like to take a moment to address my fellow Christians who have either forwarded the viral email below or are all too happy to believe it's true: You folks need to straighten up and stop acting like a bunch of heathens. Wait, I take it back. Heathens know better than to run around lying and quoting scripture at the same time. I am embarrassed to death to even be associated with some of you folks. Good Lord, you can't spread your viral email B.S. fast enough, you slather them all up with Bible verses and then piously admonish us all to join you in prayer for America. Now, bull. I'll quote a Bible verse for you. How about this: "But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in." Now, for the rest of you, since a bunch of folks couldn't take 20 seconds to get their facts straight, I'll try to clear up some of the confusion they caused with their false accusations against Barack Obama. First off, Barack Obama did not cancel the National Day of Prayer. And, he did not cancel any traditional Day of Prayer service at the White House because there is no traditional Day of Prayer service at the White House to cancel. George Bush held public services at the White House every year on the National Day of Prayer, but he was the first and only president to do so--Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush each held one service apiece, and Bill Clinton didn't hold any. Barack Obama might choose not to hold any. Barack Obama did issue a traditional Day of Prayer proclamation as every president since Ronald Reagan has done. You can read more about it at Snopes.com, Factcheck.org, and UrbanLegends.about.com. And another thing, enough of this Barack Obama said "We are no longer a Christian nation" B.S. There are more people in America of faiths other than Christianity than ever before, and that is a fact. Barack Obama made a reasonable reference to the changing religious makeup of the United States. How anyone can interpret his full remarks to be some sort of religious persecution of Christians is beyond me. You can read more at Factcheck.org. And the same goes for the crazy talk about 50,000 muslims showing up to pray with Barack Obama on their day of prayer. Again, Factcheck.org does a nice job clearing it up for anyone with questions. Go ahead and get a load of the inaccurate viral email below, all slathered up with piety and a Bible verse to boot. I can't imagine anything uglier. --Granny, 2/9/12 (Honey, what part of "Like" don't you understand?) WATCH YOUR STEP: STEAMING VIRAL EMAIL B.S.
